    This is a Kurdish Bidjar carpet from Northwest Persia from the late 1800s. The variation of the Paisley (Boteh in Persian) design which is considered the “seed of life” in the Eastern culture on a cream background make this truly a masterpiece of design and color. The geometric form of the border in bright colors adds to the beauty of this wonderful piece of weaved art.

    Bidjar

    Bidjar rug from early 20th century in great condition with full pile and no repairs. Bidjar rugs are considered the “iron rugs of persia” because of the tight weave. Great Bidjars are almost twice as heavy as similar rugs because of the method of their weaving. This rug with central medallion in white and corners and sides in white make a powerful statement. The use of bright pink, yellow, blue and green in the field and border adds to the beauty of this rug.

The beautiful border with flower design (Gol Farang (foreign flowers in Persian) is in the tradition of French Aubusson carpets of the 17th century which the antique Bidjars are known for.

    This Bidjar carpet comes in a Gol Farang which means “Foreign Flower” in Persian and is a variation on the French Aubusson design carpets that were picked up by the Persian weavers in 1800s.
